In Toronto, Elton John pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth in concert.

Hours after Queen Elizabeth II's death, at the age of 96, was announced on Thursday, Elton John, who has had the closest relationship with the royal family of any music artist, paid tribute at his concert in Toronto. "We have received the most heartbreaking news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's death," he said. "She was an inspiring person to be around - I was around her and she was fantastic."

She led the country through some of its darkest and most difficult times with grace, decency, and genuine care and warmth. I am nearly 75 years old; she has been with me my entire life, and I am very sad that she is no longer with me.

But I'm glad she's at peace and rest, and she deserves it because she worked hard. "I send my love to your family and loved ones." She will be missed, but her spirit lives on, and we will celebrate her life tonight with music, okay?" He then released his 1974 hit, "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," a song charged with meaning in this context, owing to the echo of Queen Victoria's era saying: "The sun never sets in the British Empire."

The opening of his dialogue was similar to a statement he made earlier in the day on social media, but the ending was novel. Elton John has had the closest relationship with the royal family of any musical artist in history over the past 30 years. A close friend of Lady Diana Spencer, John was knighted by the Queen on April 24, 1998, just months after Lady Di's death, and his musical tribute to her, "Candle in the Wind (Goodbye England's Rose)," is still a global success.

He sang the song, a rewritten version of his and Bernie Taupin's 1973 tribute to Marilyn Monroe, "Candle in the Wind," at her funeral. It was released as a single in September 1997, with all proceeds benefiting their charities, and it quickly became the best-selling single in British and American history. It topped the charts in several countries around the world and remained at number one in the United States for 14 weeks, earning it a Grammy Award the following year.  For additional details visit Gossip media news
